Welcome to the new Labasheeda Community Website
Labasheeda is a very beautiful village, 22 miles west of Ennis, on the banks of the Shannon Estuary.
Across the river is County Limerick, where the village's of Glin and Loughill can be seen.
On a clear day the church bell of Glin can be plainly heard ringing over the water about three miles away.
Labasheeda is set on a peninsula, with sweeping fields and the most spectacular views over looking the Estuary that anyone could ever wish to see.
Through these pages we will take you on a magical trip through Labasheeda and introduce you to all aspects of village life, taking in the Wildlife, History, Genealogy, Local Personalities past and present, Festivals & Events, and local committee's activities.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our community web site.

LABASHEEDA
Legend in connection with the Bay.
The old inhabitants narrate the following story: Three English ships were on their way to Limerick with merchandise, and as they were passing Labasheeda, a fierce storm broke on them. One of the ships took shelter in the bay and the others continued on their course. They were buffeted about in the storm and eventually they were forced to anchor in one of the bays further up the river. They had very poor anchorage and before the storm had spent itself great damage was done to their masts and rigging. After the storm, the ship that had taken shelter in Labasheeda bay continued on its way to Limerick, very soon the Captain spied the other two ships lying in anchor unable to proceed. He altered his course and came to their assistance. He expressed surprise that the storm should have done them such damage and when the others questioned him on how he managed to escape, he replied,
"Oh, I slept as soundly all through the storm as if I were in a bed of silk".
Ever after, the Bay was known as Labasheeda
